Community Service Hours too!
Volunteer Appreciation Night
A collaboration of all three youth councils, this event was held at the Cookstown Library to honor youth volunteers of South Simcoe. Guest speaker, Joy Foster, accompanied us on this event to empower and motivate these admirable individuals. Youth were nominated by the organization they volunteered for and were recognized with a short speech on behalf of their organization. Each volunteer was presented with an award and were showcased on a display to honor each nominee.
Earth Hour
As a collaboration with the Innisfil council, YNOT hosted an Earth Hour event to celebrate an hour without power. Staged in a green house, this event showcased 3 local youth performers around a field of candles.
Parade
Do you love joining the fun of holiday spirit or community events? YNOT joins the annual parades to get a little creative and to celebrate with the community!
Carrot Festival
Every year YNOT participates in Bradford's Annual Carrot Festival. YNOT kicks off the festival with our annual Film Festival and hosts a Battle of the Bands on the main street with all the vendors. Keep a look out for YNOT next time you join the fun!
Film Festival
The BWG Council hosted their second South Simcoe Youth Film Festival at the Lions Park in 2010. Youth in the community were invited to submit a youth film to be showcased at the beginning of the event, followed up with a featured film. This year we screened “Up”. The event received donations and media coverage from Rock 95. It was a great success!
Music in the Park
The music in the park is a concert series that the Town of Bradford and YNOT put on at the Rotary Park Gazebo. The concert is put on by local youth bands and solo artists. Check out the event during the summer months or come help make it a success!
The Main Event
This on going open-mic night is one of YNOT's biggest hits. The second monday of every month in the school year, YNOT hosts the event at The Main restaurant downtown Bradford. Exclusively open to host the event on one night of business that they are usuaslly closed, this event invites both youth and adult audiences. The event is open to all youth musicians from solo artists to bands. It is a great place to get some wings, enjoy the music with your friends and rock out!
Soccer
Intramural soccer anyone? YNOT hosts recreational activities to give youth options in the community. We hosted an intramural soccer game - free of charge! If these events interest you, please let us know! We'd love to make this an on going possibility during the sumemr months!
Skating
YNOT hosted a free skating event to celebrate the end of exams. During the winter break, this was a fun activity for local youth to break away to. This event also helped the Helping Hand Food Bank as YNOT collected cash donations and food from participants.
Bottle Free Day
Our local environment is a growing concern. The first step is to help build the awareness of the simple things we do in the community that can make a world of a difference to better our community. YNOT hosted a Bottle Free Day within the local schools to promote that the use of water bottles are wasteful and that youth need to understand the alternatives that are available. The group wore pins that promoted the event and it caught on, not only in the schools but in the community. Next year, the Bottle Free Day is going to be held throughout the entire community.
Food Drive
The food drive is an important part of our community. YNOT has hosted events to collect food for the food bank and has hosted a food drive around the town of Bradford.
Ski Trip
YNOT organized a a bus to take youth from Bradford to Snow Valley in Barrie. This gave youth an opportunity to engage in an activity that isn't so resourceful at home without transportation.
Conferences
Being apart of YNOT gives you endless opportunities. YNOT has sent many youth to conferences to help youth develop leadership skills, decision making skills, youth engagement and much more.
